Mehrangarh Fort Knowledge and Vistor Centre

The brief called for a visitor and knowledge centre at Jodhpur's world famous Mehrangarh Fort

The Knowledge Centre sits diagonally within an existing high-walled enclosure

Traversing the significant change of level a central stair creates an axial route to Chokelao Bagh gardens

The resulting play of mass and negative space emphasises the Fort's existing fabric

The Visitor Centre is broken down into a chain of forms

Visitors experience the building as a sequence of gently ascending rooms

The procession culminates at a formal garden designed in the Rajasthani tradition
