Christopher C M Lee
Christopher Lee is the co-founder and principal of Serie Architects London, Mumbai, Singapore and Beijing; and leads the design of Serie across all four offices. He is Associate Professor in Practice of Urban Design at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design. He previously served as Design Critic at the GSD (2011-12). Prior to that he was the Director of the AA Projective Cities MPhil Programme (2010-12) and AA Diploma and Intermediate Unit Master (2002-09). Lee graduated with the AA Diploma (Honors) from the AA, received the RIBA President’s Medal Commendation Award, and his Doctor of Philosophy in Architecture and Urbanism from the Berlage Institute and TU Delft.
Serie is the recipient of the prestigious BD Young Architect of the Year Award and was recently named as one of the 10 visionary architects for the new decade by the Leading European Architects Forum and was selected by ICON as one of 20 Essential Young Architects in the world in 2008.
The practice is known for its theoretical position which emphasises the study of building typologies and their evolution. Thus, Serie advocates careful study of historical building precedents as a basis for speculating on new solutions. With a close relationship to the internationally recognised Architectural Association School of Architecture in London and Harvard Graduate School of Design in the USA where Chris Lee is a member of the academic faculty, Serie has re-opened interest in this field as one of the key areas of architectural discourse.
Christopher Lee is the author of Working in Series and co-authored Typological Formations: Renewable Building Types and the City, both published by AA Publications. He also co-edited Wiley Academy Architectural Design Issue Typological Urbanism: Projective Cities. He is the author and editor of Common Frameworks: Rethinking the Developmental City in China, Part 2: Macau: Cross-Border City and Part 1: Xiamen: The Megaplot, published by Harvard GSD. Christopher Lee lectures widely and the works of Serie has been exhibited as a travelling solo exhibition in Hong Kong University Shanghai Architecture Gallery, Shanghai in 2009 and in the Architectural Association School of Architecture in November 2010.
Kapil Gupta is the co-founder of Serie Architects and Principal of Serie Mumbai. He was a Director of the Urban Design Research Institute, Mumbai between 2008 and 2003.
Kapil Gupta curated on behalf of the UDRI, India’s first ever entry to the Venice Architecture Biennale 2006, entitled ‘Bombay’s Land: Between the Relic and the Void’. This culminated in an gallery exhibition ‘Reading ^ the Lines’, Project 88, Mumbai (Sept-Oct 2007) and an essay, Abandon Mumbai’ for Art India, 2008. He was a part of the Indian Team that won a special award and 2nd Prize at the Sustainable Urban Systems Design Competition in Japan 2003.
Kapil Gupta lectures widely and the works of Serie has been exhibited as a travelling solo exhibition in Hong Kong University Shanghai Architecture Gallery, Shanghai in 2009 and in the Architectural Association School of Architecture in November 2010.
The practice has completed among others, the award winning Blue Frog Acoustic Lounge and Studios, The Tote, Thanks Boutique, and the Leo Burnett HQ in Mumbai, India. Current projects include the revitalization of four disused factory buildings in Hangzhou, China alongside Nicholas Grimshaw, Bohacky Residential master plan and housing in Bratislava and 440-units of Middle Income Housing in Ruzinov, Bratislava and two schools in Mumbai.
Kapil Gupta graduated with Honours from Sir JJ School of Architecture, Mumbai in 1996 followed by post-graduate studies at the Architectural Association School of Architecture London between 1996 and 1998. He is Registered Architect with the Council of Architecture, India.
Partner, Serie London
Bolam Lee is a Partner with Serie Architects London. She graduated from the Architectural Association School of Architecture London with the AA Diploma and ARB/RIBA Part II in 2008. She completed her BSc. in Architectural Engineering in Hanyang University Seoul.
She worked in Space Group Seoul from 2001-2005 and was involved in various architectural and master planning projects.
Her research project MultiplexCity which dealt with the congested urban conditions in Seoul has been published in ‘Typological Formations: Renewable Building Types and the City’ by AA Publications.
She served as a design studio tutor in the School of Built Environment, Nottingham University and serves as a guest critic at the AA Diploma School.
Partner, Serie London
Martin Jameson is a Partner with Serie Architects London. An architect registered with the ARB, Martin has project managed multiple Serie projects including work in UK, Slovakia, India and China. In recent years he has worked on the Singapore State Courts project and the BMW Olympic Pavilion. He has extensive experience of concept design, developed design and masterplanning projects.
Since 2010 he has been Unit Master at the Architectural Association School of Architecture and is currently teaching in the Diploma School. He has been a guest critic and lecturer at Cambridge and Nottingham universities.
Before studying at the Architectural Association Martin was a Principal at management consultants Booz Allen Hamilton. He advised corporations on business strategy and worked on over 30 assignments in the USA, continental Europe, Japan and across Asia Pacific. He completed his MBA at IMD, Lausanne, Switzerland, and was awarded the Booz Allen full-fee scholarship. He was a domus scholar at Oxford University where he completed his BA(hons) in Philosophy, Politics and Economics.
He completed five years training at the Architectural Assocation (AA) London and received his diploma with honours (distinction).

Simon Whittle is an Associate at Serie Architects London. He received his diploma from the Architectural Association in London, and is a registered architect with ARB. He is a Teaching Assistant at Harvard’s Graduate School of Design. Prior to working with Serie Simon worked at Heatherwick Studio.
Associate, Serie Mumbai
Santosh Thorat is an Associate at Serie, Mumbai. He graduated with Honors from Bharti Vidyapeeth’s College of Architecture, Mumbai in 2000.
Since joining Serie, he has been involved with architectural and master planning projects like the Bluefrog Acoustic Lounge in Mumbai, a large integrated township project in Pune and the Sustainable Urban Systems Design Competition in Japan 2003. He is currently heading a team which is working on two school projects in the Mumbai.
Prior to joining Serie Mumbai, he has worked at P. G. Patki Architects and Upasani Design Cell and has considerable experience in the hospitality and leisure sector. He has participated in several regional and international design competitions including the Shinkenchiku Residential Design competition in 2005 and the M.G.A.H.V University competition in 2003.
He is a regular invited critic at architecture colleges in Mumbai.

Renu Gupta is an Associate at Serie Architects Mumbai. She holds a masters degree from Institute of Advanced Architecture of Catalonia, Barcelona (2008) and a graduate degree from Rizvi college of Architecture, Mumbai (2001).
Since joining Serie in 2009, she has been involved with several housing and masterplanning projects.
With other multinational firms she has worked on large-scale urban and infrastructure projects like underground metro stations, health-care and housing projects in India and the Middle-east.
She is a visiting design tutor and guest critic at under-graduate school of design in Mumbai.
