Leisure Cities

In our investigations, we discovered the emergence of a new breed of Leisure Types around the world, from Blackpool and Macao with their Super Casinos, Seoul with its Multiplexes, Bahrain and its Hydro-Suburbia, Singapore with its Themed Tropical Gardens; and that the proliferation of these dominant leisure type to reinvent cities is an increasingly common urban regeneration strategy.

As a response to these conditions worldwide, Max von Werz makes the following speculations:

'The catalytic potential of a masterplan, designed to privilege the success of new industries, should not rely on Bilbao’s increasingly predictable strategy of engaging star architects as image-makers.
