Kapil Gupta

Kapil Gupta is the principal of Serie Architects India and a director at the Urban Design Research Institute, Mumbai.

 

He graduated with honours from Sir J J College of Architecture, Mumbai followed by post-graduate studies at the Architectural Association, London.

 

He was a part of Indian Team that won a special award and 2nd Prize at the Sustainable Urban Systems Design Competition, Japan 2003,  which focused on developing new strategies for the development of future ecologically sensitive cites.  He recently curated India's first ever entry to the prestigious Venice Architecture Biennale 2006 in the Padiglione Italia. The exhibition, which involved artists and filmmakers, offers a poetic and psychic engagement with Mumbai and its development plan. A re-edited version was recently exhibited at Project 88, Mumbai.

 

Kapil has delivered guest lectures at UIA Conference in Kuala Lumpur, Urban Design Research Institute, Mumbai, the Annual IALD Awards, Hyderabad, and at various architecture schools in Mumbai some at which he is a regular Visiting Critic.

 

He has been recently named BD Young Architect of the Year Award Runner Up and picked as one of ICON's 20 Essential Young Architects working on the international stage. He was awarded Architectural Record Design Vanguard 2005 and received awards at the Annual IIID Awards and Annual DCC Awards.

 

His works have been extensively published in design journals and magazines including A+U, Arch+, Architectural Design, Archiworld, Tatlin, Wallpaper, Art India, Indian Architect & Builder, A+D and Space Time & Architecture.

 

He has exhibited recently in the Beijing Biennale 2008 and Armani Teatro, Milan as part of the Global Edit 06: Emerging International Design curated by Wallpaper* Magazine.
