Christopher CM Lee

Christopher C.M Lee is the co-founder and principal of Serie Architects. He is the Director of the Architectural Association Projective Cities Programme, Unit Master of AA Diploma Unit 6(2003-09) and Intermediate Unit 2 (2001-03).

 

In the Architectural Association School of Architecture, Christopher Lee explores the problem of type and the city, with particular focus on the renewed relevance of typological reasoning and experimentation – or working projectively in series – to describe, conceptualise, theorise and ultimately project new typological ideas for and from the city. He is also currently conducting his doctoral research on the same topic in the Berlage Institute Rotterdam.

 

Serie was recently named as one of the 10 visionary architects for the new decade by the Leading European Architects Forum. Serie has also won numerous awards of excellence including BD Young Architect of the Year Award Runner-up 2008, ICON Magazine's 20 Essential Young Architects in the world in 2008 and Architectural Record's Design Vanguards of 2005.

 

Christopher Lee co-authored Typological Formations: Renewable Building Types and the City, published by AA Publications (now in 2nd edition).

The works of Serie has been exhibited as a travelling solo exhibition in HKU Shanghai Architecture Gallery in 2009 and will culminate in the Architectural Association School of Architecture in Nov 2010. Serie has also exhibited in the Beijing Biennale 2008 and Christopher Lee’s research work with AA Dip 6 has been exhibited as a retrospective exhibition in University Technology of Sydney titled ‘Urban Futures: Type and the Urban Plan’.

 

His competition winning entries includes Bohacky Residential Master Plan (1st prize) and 440-units of Middle Income Housing in Ruzinov, Bratislava (1st prize), Shinkenjiku-sha Residential Design Competition [2nd] and Rabin Square International Design Competition [1st].

 

The practice has completed among others, the award winning Blue Frog Acoustic Lounge and Studios, The Tote, Thanks Boutique, and the Leo Burnett HQ in Mumbai, India.

Christopher Lee graduated with the AA Diploma [Honours] in 1998 from Architectural Association School of Architecture London and awarded the RIBA President’s Medal Commendation Award. He is a Chartered Architect, registered with the Royal Institute of British Architects and the Architects Registration Board.
